Why You Should Celebrate at Work

Boost Morale When You Celebrate At Work

Celebrations should give team members and co-workers recognition for accomplishments and milestones in both their work and their personal lives. Being recognized for those accomplishments shows us that you not only pay attention but that you care. Birthdays, baby showers, anniversaries, and even Taco Tuesdays can make a big difference when it comes to connecting with other leaders. When people feel appreciated, seen, and heard, their attitudes toward work improve and that’s a win-win for everybody. When morale is high, production improves, and affinity toward the workplace increases.

Celebrations Help Build-Up Teams

Celebrations can bring the crucial teams you’ve worked so hard to build over time even closer together. Celebration helps create a sense of unity for staff, particularly if you are celebrating a team accomplishment. Nothing says unity like sharing a piece of cake and reminiscing about the week’s big wins. More often than not, celebrations provide a relaxed atmosphere, where colleagues are able to get to know one another beyond the work they do together. The better I know you, the more likely I will be to work harder for our shared success.

Celebrations Serve As Motivation

Everyone is motivated by different things and for different reasons. Jim likes monetary rewards; Samantha goes crazy for flowers. Regardless, we all have shared internal and external motivators, and we all like to be recognized. Celebrations can serve as an incredibly effective motivator for individuals and teams. We like to be recognized.

We like to be patted on the back. We love attaboys and attagirls. Plain and simple. Everyone wants it and it’s one of the easiest things to give. Plus, praise from the higher-ups goes a lot farther than you might think. Praise every improvement that you see your team members make. Once you’re comfortable delivering praise one-on-one to an employee, try praising them in front of others.

Celebrate At Work To Share Shared Success

Nothing encourages a collaborative work environment like celebrating wins as a team and sharing in each other’s success. At WildSparq and Fireseeds, we encourage everyone to know and understand each others’ wins and swings on a quarterly, monthly, weekly, and even sometimes a daily basis. This encourages everyone to have an interest in helping out another coworker who needs it, but it also allows us to come alongside each other during the foxhole moments. And when one of us “wins,” we all do! And that’s when celebrations are truly the sweetest.

Celebrate At Work To Create A Stronger Work Culture

Think of it this way: employment is just like dating. You can’t achieve happy results without the foundation for a good relationship. In the workplace, that foundation is a strong culture that reinforces company philosophy and values the employees that uphold it. It’s simple. Happy employees are more productive; unhappy employees leave. Employee happiness can be difficult to quantify, but it is a concrete value, and it matters.

So, raise that glass, turn up the walk-out music, get one of those ridiculous confetti cannons, splurge on the seven-layer cake, and let’s celebrate at work! It works! Try it and see for yourself.
